Volunteers are a group of people that are willing to reach outside their comfort zone and infiltrate the masses with a spirit of servanthood. Revealing Jesus’ true nature of humility and love. The very definition of volunteering is a service-act of one’s own freewill. How lovely to think that no one need wait a moment: we can start now, start slowly changing the world! How lovely that everyone, great and small, can make a contribution toward introducing Jesus as they go.
Today, the volunteer spirit is lacking in the world. In these “last days,” people lead very busy lives, and many are “lovers of themselves.” (2 Tim. 3:1, 2) It is easy for a person to become so absorbed in personal interests that he overlooks opportunities to volunteer his services when there is a need to help others. However, as Christians, we desire to imitate Jesus, who took the initiative to help others. (John 5:5-9; 13:12-15; 1 Pet. 2:21).
HelpdeskA Helpdesk Volunteer must be an excellent communicator with good administrative skills as well as someone who is comfortable in interacting with people. The Help Desk ministry is there to assist in any query the congregation or visitors might have relating to church services, ministries, tithing and giving or upcoming events/courses. The Helpdesk Ministry is the central information area where people can learn more about the church and the activities and therefore, a Helpdesk Volunteer should aim to be knowledgeable enough to provide a brief explanation on any church-related matters.
Welcoming TeamThe Welcoming Team are some of the first people you will meet on a Sunday, and they have the privilege to welcome God’s Kids Back Home every Sunday. Their play a vital role in letting people feel wanted and in promoting fellowship throughout the congregation. They have the opportunity to connect to every attendee from the moment they walk through the church doors until they are seated. A Welcome Team Volunteer should also be able to identify 1st time attendees at the door and be bold to introduce themselves, and to make them feel right at home. If a visitor has never been to our church before, offer directions to the bathrooms, show them where the Kids Church program is, tell them where they can find the Helpdesk, etc.
UshersA church usher is a person who helps ensure a smoothly running church service and who ministers to people in a variety of practical ways. Duties usually include greeting people as they arrive for the service, assisting people with special needs, and collecting the offering. They are also available to answer visitors’ questions and extend extra help in seating those who need the assistance. Our ushers also assist us with preparation of communion and the serving thereof. The usher ministry also plays a vital role in creating an atmosphere of order in the service and therefore an usher needs to be constantly aware of what is going on amongst the congregation during a service so that they can act quickly and appropriately.
Parking AttendantsParking Attendants assists in directing the thousands of vehicles that pass through the gates of Empower Church on a weekly basis. The Parking Teams are our first greeters and point of contact when people arrive on the church premise. Therefore, this ministry is pivotal in also making people feel welcome and at home. Even though this ministry operate outside of the church walls, it does not make it any less important. This ministry is in charge of keeping the flow of traffic on target, help during inclement weather, and making sure our seniors member along with the congregation are safely in the buildings.
Cake Sale TeamsThe purpose of our Cake Teams are to serve delicious cake in order to connect families after our Empower Church Services on a Sunday. The cake tables are place where young and old form connections over a piece of sweetness and it provides an opportunity for the congregation to really connect beyond the service. Our cake teams have personalities that matches the sweetness of the cake they serve and a person should walk away feeling refreshed, joyous and connected.
Mothers’ RoomsMembers serving on this team have the unique opportunity to minister to the needs of mothers who utilise the Mothers’ Room during the Sunday services. By doing so, they commit to monitor the Mothers’ Room regularly during the services and in the foyers in order to fulfil any specific needs that may arise. Our Mother’s Room atmosphere should be an extended place for moms to worship the Lord while relaxing and taking care of the needs of their baby/small children (0-3 years).
Elderly AssistAt Empower Church we are serious about valuing and honouring our elderly partners and visitors. We have dedicated parking space for the them and we also have volunteers who assist them to move from their car into the Church building as required. An Elderly Assist volunteer should be able to identify someone that falls into this category (65 years +) and should make it their aim to ensure that these people have an enjoyable experience from the moment they arrive until they leave to go home again.
